Søren Frost is born in Aarhus, Denmark, in 1965, and started playing drums at the age of 11.

While taking lessons at Aarhus Conservatory Of Music, Frost joined the local professional big band ‘Klüvers Big Band’ with whom he stayed for 4 years. During this period, Frost played with many American stars, among others Thad Jones and Slide Hampton.

In 1987, Frost moved to New York City, to follow a ten week certificate program, at the world famous school, ‘Drummers Collective’, where he received lessons from Kim Plainfield and Mike Clark. At the same time Frost played small clubs and theatre gigs, but returned to Copenhagen in 1988, where he immediately found himself working with such jazzstars as Richard Boone and Ernie Wilkins. In 1990, Frost toured Japan, with Danish singer Anne Dorte Michelsen, and in 1991 he toured Thailand with American singer Lillian Boutte, with whom he in 92 recorded 2 CDs in Lillians hometown New Orleans.

Since 1990, Frost has been working with The Danish Radio Big Band, and has been the regular drummer since 1999, and has been working or recording with such great artists as David Sanborn, Toots Thielemanns, Maria Schneider and Dr. John. Besides that, Frost has been busy with lots of television shows, Broadway musicals, Danish Radio Symfonietta and has done lots of drumclinics/masterclasses. Frost has spent a great deal of time in New Orleans, where the locals have nicknamed him ‘Blackfoot’ for his feel for playing Second Line Beats. In N.O. he has worked with brass bands Soul Rebels ansd The New Orleans NightCrawlers as well as trumpeter Leroy Jones and pianist Henry Butler and played black gospel services in the 9th ward.

Besides his work with The Danish Radio Big Band, where he has toured almost all over the world, Frost co-leads his own New Orleans funktrio, skipper-just-frost, with whom he in 2004 received a Danish grammy. The trio has recorded 7 cds and toured in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Germany, South Korea and USA.

In 2008, Frost was invited to participate in the first European Yamaha Groove All Stars Night, at the Frankfurt Music Fair. Here Frost performed with the likes of Neil Stubenhaus, David Spinozza, Tom Brechtlein, John JR Robinson, Rick Marotta and others.
