Diddle Rudiment Review!

Hi everyone. Welcome to lesson 4 of the ‘Rudiment Series’.

In this lesson, we will conclude our look at the ‘Diddle’ rudiments and I’ve created some backing tracks for you all to play along with.

You will need to be comfortable playing all 4 rudiments and the corresponding grooves.

If you’re not sure what they are, go and watch the previous 3 videos. If you do know what they are and just need a quick reminder, the rudiments are as follows and next to them are the corresponding groove.

Single Paradiddle – 8th note groove

Double Paradiddle – Triplet feel

Triple Paradiddle – 16th note groove

Paradiddle-diddle – Half time shuffle

The backing tracks last approximately 1 minute each and I would really encourage you to grab your sticks and play along.

*EXTRA LESSON*

By the way… in the introduction clip, I played 3 of the ‘Diddle’ rudiments joined together. The sticking I play is as follows..

RLRR LRLL RLRR LRLL  (Paradiddles)

RLRLRR  (Double Paradiddle) LRLLRR  (Paradiddle-diddle)

LRLL  (Paradiddle).

*END OF EXTRA LESSON*

Lesson 5 will be taking a look at double stroke rolls and some permutations.

Best of luck everyone and see you on the next lesson

About the Author

Graeme Hare My Name is Graeme Hare. I'm a drummer/percussionist from the North East of England. Before it's demise, I was the longest serving teacher at Newcastle Drum Centre and had the pleasure of teaching many North East students over a 12 year period. Because of my links with The Drum Centre and Northumberland County Music Service, I had the opportunity to present drum clinics and perform alongside drummers such as Zoro, Gregg Bissonette, Simon Edgoose, Michael Schack, Horacio Hernandez, Steve Ferrone, Will Calhoun, Rodney Holmes and Thomas Lang. I have played drums for Sting and Mel B and I'm currently working regularly in the North East and around the country in various outfits playing everything from theatre shows to wedding functions. My day job revolves around privately teaching drum kit, Samba drumming and African drumming in local schools and running my business, www.drumming-workshops.co.uk providing workshops in schools, colleges and special events across the country.
